McCarran Amendment

Waves the sovereign and immunity of the United States so as to allow state courts and agencies to adjudicate Federal water rights in proceedings that qualify as general stream adjudications. The waiver of immunity from suit has been interpreted by the courts to include claims against the United States as trustee of reserved water rights of Indian tribes and individual Indian allottees.
